The English service of UBB Radio is a multi-media project that functions as an online school-radio within the Journalism Department at Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, and functions as a multimedia practice platform for the English Journalism students. The project, launched in 2007, in the beginning developed audio program and later developed online multimedia content, photo and video news. The main objective of the project is to train journalism students and functions as a pedagogical laboratory – students coordinated by professors have the opportunity to immediately put into professional practice the theoretical aspects studied within the journalism program curriculum.
Multilingualism and multiculturalism, promoted within Babeş-Bolyai University structure and curriculum, are being highly supported by the language services of UBB Radio which produces programs in Romanian, German and English.
One of the news desk editorial focus is on the European agenda. In 2009, UBB Radio was awarded with the diploma of The most innovative media content in Transylvania with focus on the European agenda; competition chaired by Leonard Orban, the Commissioner for Multilingualism in the European Commission.
UBB Radio / English Service actively supports the development of a European Communication Sphere and European Journalism, both through its program and its involvement in important European media projects, financially supported by the EU programs, such as MICRO-EUROPA – a student radio network that focuses on European Journalism.
